The Cosmo Guide: Indie Darlings
The actresses making it big in the 'little' films
When it comes to films, it's hard to overlook the luminaries who star in the blockbusters we can't escape: Angelina, Reese, Jen and Gwyneth aren't just actresses, they're institutions. They make star turns on the covers of our magazines, we know the names of their immediate family members and we're familiar with just about every aspect of their lives (and if we're not, we make it our business to dig around 'til we do).
But the other type of Hollywood actress - the indie darling - is making a comeback. Former poster girls like Parker Posey and Martha Plimpton have had their day - now it's Juno star Ellen Page's turn to be this generation's indie 'it' girl. That's just the beginning. Chloe Sevigny is one of the hottest actresses on TV right now - you've seen her in the polygamous family drama Big Love. Olivia Thirlby, who also starred in Juno, will star opposite Mary-Kate Olsen in The Wackness. It premiered in the US this week to rave reviews, so we can expect big things from the film.
The list could stretch on, but we narrowed it to eight. Look out for these talented, quirky and oh-so-cool ladies, coming to screens near you.
