Dieters searching for a quick solution to their weight problems should step away from the pharmacy counter, say Choice magazine experts.
The consumer mag has launched an investigation into over-the-counter weight loss programs, and called two programs, Tony Ferguson Weight Loss and Ultra Lite Weight Management, "disgraceful and irresponsible."
The problem, experts say, is not the programs themselves, but the fact that they're being sold by grossly underqualified staff. For half of the 20 programs surveyed, the consultants had only been trained for three to six hours before being able to sell the products.
A Choice spokesperson, Christopher Zinn, said a national accreditation system was needed.
