Red Nails have been a 2024 summer staple in Europe and the USA, co-signed by style mavens like Kendall Jenner, Selena Gomez and Sabrina Carpenter. Naturally, we’ll be jumping on the trend as the weather warms up—and not just because it looks cute.

There’s an old (by internet standards, anyway) internet theory that cherry red fingertips might just be the all important tool that’s missing from a woman’s repertoire when she sets out to find a new lover.

What Is the Red Nail Theory?

Coined by TikTok creator Robyn Delmonte (@GirlBossTown), the ‘Red Nail Theory’ posits the idea that men are more attracted to women when their nails are painted red. Since posting her viral video, over 18,000 ladies have tested out the theory and posted their results to TikTok under the hashtag #rednailtheory.

Delmonte pondered in her viral video, “Every time I have red nails, a guy comments on it.”

“They’ll be like, oh, I like your nail colour. I always thought red was a grandma’s nail colour…Then it hit me. In the ’90s, when we were growing up, women had red nails a lot, especially our mums… I think guys are attracted to our red nails because it reminds them of their mums when they were growing up, taking care of them.”

Red has long been associated with words like romantic, sensual, and vibrant. For centuries the colour has been a symbol of love and passion; so are we really so surprised that men are being allured by its presence?

Does the Red Nail Theory Really Work?

The reviews and videos circulating on TikTok suggest a divided consensus. Some women claim to have been successful in their search for romance when flaunting their new red fingertips, whilst others regret to inform that they experienced no noticeable change in their dating life.

How to Manifest With Red Nails

Sarah Potter, a tarot reader and celebrity psychic medium told Glamour, “Every colour holds a vibrational energy that can enhance our intentions.” She further explained, “When we use colour consciously, we can manifest our desires, shift how we feel, and change the energy. We all relate to colour; we all know which colours we live and which ones we repel. This is reflective of the energy we are working with and what we need to feel balanced.”

“There is also a colour for every intention,” she adds. “Red, for example, is associated with confidence, while tangerine orange boosts creativity and inspiration.”

Thus, sporting specific shades on your nails enables you to harness their energies, and additionally, seeing those colours every day can impact your mood—whether you even believe in manifestation or not.
