If you’re totally, utterly obsessed with Doechii, you’re not alone. Whether you’ve been a fan since her OG days rapping on YouTube, or discovered her via her recent Tiny Desk Concert or *that* fabulous Grammys performance—the rapper’s fan base has been rapidly expanding thanks to her sick style, catchy tunes and inimitable energy.
If you’re well acquainted with the star, you may have noticed a theme in her outfits (aside from a penchant for slick, luxury tailoring): face tape. Both on stage and on the red carpet, the Swamp Princess regularly rocks exposed face tape over her braids and glam.

What Is Face Tape?
Face tape is tape—often two pieces attached by a string—that is typically stuck to one’s temples, pulling the skin and giving the eyes and cheeks a lifted appearance.
Face tape doesn’t change the structure of the face or skin permanently. Rather, it only makes a visible difference to one’s features while it’s being worn.
Face tape has historically been hidden under hair, but Doechii wears hers exposed—a move that is totally intentional, according to the star and her makeup artist.

Why Does Doechii Wear Face Tape?
In essence, Doechii wears face tape because she likes the look of it.
In a TikTok posted in November 2024, the musician said: “Okay, so the face tapes are there on purpose because it’s c*nt.”

Doechii’s makeup artist, Dee Carrion, doubled down during a post-Grammys interview with People, explaining that the exposed tape has become a part of the star’s signature look.
“They are visible because we think it’s cool,” Dee told the outlet. “We even rhinestoned them during her performance to make them even more visible. We wanted to bring an editorial vibe to something that was very glam. We just like the way it looks and the effect it gives.”
All we have to say about that is, slay.
