If you took the advice of TikTok earlier this year and went looking for a man in finance, you may have been dipping your toes into the wrong industry’s dating pool (if a high-income suitor was all you were after, at least).

Employment platform Seek has just dropped the top 10 highest paying jobs in Australia this year and *checks notes* finance bros didn’t make the cut.

Having pooled and analysed advertised salaries from thousands of job ads, Seek concluded that the most lucrative Aussie professions in 2024 are… kind of unexpected.

According to Seek, the highest paying jobs in Australia right now are:

10. IT Functional Consultant — $155,266

9. Reliability Engineer — $158,347

8. Electrical Supervisor — $164,545

7. Financial Planning and Analysis Manager — $167,445

6. Engineering Lead — $171,441

5. Engineering Manager — $181,783

4. Healthcare and Medical Staff Specialist — $222,503

3. General Practitioner — $232,450

2. Construction Project Director — $232,682

1. Psychiatrist — $236,055

What Does the Average Australian Earn?

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data from May 2024, the average full-time worker in Australia earns $1,923.40 per week, or an annual salary of $100,016.

There is still a gap between the pay of men and women. A full-time male worker earns $2,015.30 per week on average, where a female earns $1784.40.
