Just when we thought we couldn’t love Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh’s friendship any more, he just revealed some details about one of their sex scenes that shows just how safe the We Live In Time co-stars feel with each other.

ICYMI: The British actors are starring in a soon-to-be-released film, which follows their characters’ unconventional romance across a decade. Perhaps you remember that press shot of Florence and Andrew at a carnival that was released earlier this year—the one with the zany plastic horse (if not, see below)? Yeah, that was for this!

This week, Andrew partook in a Q&A with Josh Horowitz on 92NY, in which he got candid about the A24 flick’s sex scenes—and the process of filming one of them with Florence. In the interview, he revealed that one scene became so passionate, that the co-stars didn’t hear the director shout cut.

“We were doing the first take of this very intimate, passionate scene,” Andrew recalled. “It’s a closed set, which means it’s only me and Florence and the camera operator, who’s a lovely man called Stuart. And he’s very polite and very sweet and gentle.”

The actor continued, “The director’s in another room next door. And so the scene becomes passionate and we get into it, as it were, and we go a little bit further than we were meant to because we didn’t hear ‘cut’ and it’s feeling safe. And we’re just kinda like, ‘Ok, we’ll just go into the next thing, we’ll let this progress, and we’ll just carry on.’”

“And at a certain point, both of us, we’re both kind of telepathically saying to each other, ‘This definitely feels like a longer take.’ I look up, and in the corner is Stuart and our boom operator. Stuart has the camera by his side and he’s turned into the wall.”

Talk about feeling safe on set!

Catch Florence and Andrew’s chemistry on full-display next year.
