The tension between Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes and Sabrina Carpenter—aka one of the most unexpected rumoured celeb spats of 2024—appears to be bubbling away.
ICYMI: Camila and Shawn dated for a while, then they broke up, after which Shawn briefly dated Sabrina. Then they broke up, and shortly after Camila and Shawn reunited for a very public pash at Coachella, before calling it quits for good in mid 2023. Then, everyone moved on, things were fine, there were no hard feelings, right? Wrong.
Rumours things were awry between the trio kicked off back in August when Sabrina released her song ‘Taste’. The track, from her album Short ‘n Sweet, is widely thought to be about Shawn and Camila’s reunion.
The tune’s music video stars Jenna Ortega as Sabrina’s ex’s new love interest. In it, Jenna and Sabrina try to kill each other, accidentally leading to the demise of the man at the centre of it all.

At the MTV VMAs on September 12—which Camila, Sabrina and Shawn all attended—Camila wore a lacy, black look, complete with a veil, that some fans thought was suspiciously similar to Jenna’s look from the ‘Taste’ MV.

At yesterday’s iHeartRadio Music Festival, Camila performed ‘Señorita,’ her song that she wrote and sang with Shawn.
The hit features the lyrics, “You say we’re just friends / But friends don’t know the way you taste.” During Camila’s set, she chose not to sing the word “taste,” instead putting a finger to her lips and casting a little IYKYK side-eye. Fans quickly shared videos from the show to social media (check one out here) and the internet was, naturally, quick to weigh in.
“They’re so messy i love it,” wrote one user, with another adding, “Wait she is SOO funny for this.”
The tea!!! The iHeartRadio event came after Sabrina performed ‘Taste’ live at the VMAs—in front of both Shawn and Camila.
Whether or not the two women *actually* have beef is unclear but regardless, they’re certainly leaning into the fanfare of it all. As another TikTok commenter put it, “this was pop used to be about we’re so back.”
