It’s been a big night for Chappell Roan!
The star had a major evening at her first ever MTV Video Music Awards—she picked up the award for Best New Artist, performed a stellar rendition of ‘Good Luck, Babe ‘, and cycled through several Medieval outfits. Chappell also found herself at the centre of a viral moment, thanks to a video in which she can be heard yelling at someone on the red carpet.
In a clip taken while an assistant was adjusting Chappell’s dress, a voice off-camera can be heard telling someone to “shut the fuck up.” Chappell wasn’t about to have a bar of it, and turned around to tell him to “shut the fuck up” in return. After a suspenseful pause while her gown was being fixed, she pointed a finger toward the culprit, adding, “Don’t! Not me, bitch.”
Someone else then chimed in (voicing all of out thoughts) saying, “Tell ‘em, girl!”

The video instantly began to gain traction online, while Chappell was still on the carpet. Luckily, she was one step ahead of any trolls and clarified the situation in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
The ‘HOT TO GO’ artist explained that the red carpet experience was “overwhelming and quite scary.”
“I think for someone who gets a lot of anxiety around people yelling at you, the [red] carpet is horrifying,” she said. “And I yelled back… you don’t get to yell at me like that!”
The girl knows her boundaries! Snaps for Chappell, who went on to win one of the four awards she was nominated for and delivered a heartwarming speech (straight from her diary, might we add).
