The California-born 25 year-old singer/songwriter has quickly become a music industry it-girl—and she’s wasted no time bringing her fellow pop girlies up on her rise.
With her honest lyrics and down-to-earth charm, it’s no surprise that she takes inspiration from none other than Taylor Swift. In a recent interview, Gracie opened up about the monumental impact Taylor has had on pop culture, highlighting that no man has ”come close to defining pop culture” in the same way.
Here’s a closer look at what Gracie had to say about her admiration for the pop queen and why their friendship is one for the ages.
What Did Gracie Say About Taylor?
“I couldn’t be more different from Taylor. We are different in all the ways that my friends and I are different or that you and I are different. Taylor is an athlete, a brilliant businessperson, and a genius writer. She’s a grounded human being who makes time for everyone in her life. It’s been really cool to be in the orbit of a person like her,” Gracie told Cosmopolitan in her digital cover story.
“There’s also nothing that comes close to what she has done. People will still gaslight her and her capabilities and all this shit. But please point me to one man who has come close to defining pop culture in this way. There is nothing! But people are not ready for that conversation.”

December 2021: Taylor Invites Gracie To Her Birthday Party
Okay, get this: Taylor Swift, the queen of pop herself, invited Gracie Abrams to her birthday party— which is a dream come true for any fan! *Cue the happy tears.*
This was basically the start of what can only be described as one of the most heartwarming celebrity friendships of the decade.
Gracie told Vanity Fair that Taylor first contacted her via an unknown number, to invite her to her birthday party. “She texted me out of the blue like two Christmases ago. Like, ‘hey, it’s my birthday.’ I was like, ‘I know.’”
Naturally, Abrams verified the details with a mutual producer before allowing herself to truly get her hopes up. More specifically—“Can you confirm something for me, or is there someone just trying to break my heart?”
But no, it was real! (Phew)
April 2023: Gracie Opens For Taylor During Her Eras Tour
Okay, so nothing really interesting happened between the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2024, but fast forward to April and and bam, things get REAL interesting!
Taking the opener reigns from fellow pop queen Sabrina Carpenter, it was announced Gracie would be opening for Taylor on her Eras Tour! Yup, you read that right—Gracie, the indie-pop princess with a voice so hauntingly beautiful it could melt your heart, was hitting the stage before Taylor every night, and it was purely iconic to say the least.
“[It was] the best experience of my life,” Gracie told Variety. “To have that become a part of my weekly routine for four months straight has bled into kind of all ways of my life, not just how joyful I feel internally, but the songs that we’ve been making.”
July 2023: Taylor And Gracie Perform On Stage Together
Oh, and it’s only up from there. Three months into opening the Eras Tour, Mother Nature decided to give Gracie the career lift she deserved, flushing out her opening set. But this was just a blessing in disguise. Taylor, with her ever-so supportive and genuine heart of gold, made sure that Gracie still had a chance to perform that night, inviting her onstage for a duet (ARE YOU KIDDING)!
And they even sang one of Gracie’s songs—none other than her hit song, ‘I miss you, i’m sorry.’
November 2023: Gracie Abrams And Taylor Swift Have Dinner In NYC
After their pivotal bonding moment on stage during the Erad Tour, the friendship between Gracie and Taylor only continued to flourish, grabbing dinner in New York’s Lower East Side in November that same year.
May 2024: Taylor Is Revealed As A Collaborator On Gracie’s New Album
Gracie then announced the tracklist of her The Secret of Us album, which revealed a song titled ‘Us’ featuring Swift— did someone say besties?
The song was even nominated for a Grammy under the best pop duo/group performance (but it was knocked out by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ ‘Die With A Smile’). The collab also afforded Taylor her first-ever entry into triple j’s Hottest 100 this year.
June 2024: Taylor Puts Out A Fire During Songwriting Session With Gracie
When ‘Us’ was finally released, Gracie shared her experience of collaborating with Taylor— and let’s just say, it was so sweet.
Gracie and Taylor spent the evening together at Taylor’s Tribeca Apartment, sharing dinner and wine, while giving sneak peeks into their upcoming albums (The Tortured Poets Department and The Secret Of Us).
In a conversation with Billboard, Gracie recalled, “Something caught our ear at the same time very hard and fast, so we ran to the piano and started writing this song … I used to fantasise about that kind of a thing as a kid.”
While they were mid-song-writing, Gracie described hearing a thump—which Taylor assured her was “one of her cats thumping around—only to discover later that the thump definitely wasn’t a cat. It was actually a candle falling over, leaving the kitchen island bench up in flames.
Taylor, ever-so-heroically, grabbed a fire extinguisher before any real damage could be done. “I don’t know how at this hour or in our state she knew what to do,” Gracie shared.
