When Gwyneth Paltrow made a mid-career (and largely unprecedented) pivot from Oscar-winning actress to wellness entrepreneur with the launch of Goop in 2008, she was sort of in uncharted territory. Where nowadays, it’s basically compulsory for a celebrity to have a side-hustle or brand — oftentimes one that makes them more money than their actual job — when Paltrow did it, it was pretty unheard of. What started as a humble newsletter that gave subscribers the inside scoop on where to eat in Paris’ Fifth Arrondissement or who to see for microneedling on the Lower East Side has evolved into an all-encompassing wellness and lifestyle brand — one that, as of 2020, was valued at around $250 million.
Though, few founders have been as polarising as Gwyneth and her Goop. She’s been pretty open about the trials and tribulations of pivoting from nepo-baby to Oscar-winning actress to wellness mogul, but a new biography by New York Times bestselling author Amy Odell promises to dive deep into the life of the woman behind the vagina candles and yoni eggs. Here, everything to know about Odell’s new book, Gwyneth.

We Already Know What Gwyneth’s Lady Parts Smell Like. What More Is There To Know?
Apparently, enough for a whole book. According to an announcement Odell published to her Substack Back Row, the biography — which took three years to write — “reveals details and insights from those who know her.” More than 220 sources from across the entertainment industry and Goop were interviewed for the book, discussing everything from Paltrow’s privileged childhood (she’s the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and director and producer Bruce Paltrow) to the way she shaped wellness culture in the mid-2010s.
Who Wrote ‘Gwyneth’?
American journalist Amy Odell is responsible for Gwyneth: The Biography, but this is hardly the first time the writer has undertaken a book on the life of a powerhouse woman. In 2022, Odell also penned Anna Wintour’s biography, Anna, which was named a New York Times bestseller and similarly drew on over 250 interviews with sources close to Wintour. Except for, you know, Anna Wintour herself. Along with Anna and soon Gwyneth, Odell has also written a collection of personal essays from her time in the trenches as a fashion journalist titled Tales from the Back Row, which is every bit as juicy and chic as it sounds.

When Can I Get My Hands On ‘Gwyneth’?
Just in time for your Euro sojourn, Gwyneth is out on July 29th. If you’re so desperate to get ahead of the curve though, you can pre-order it now here. In the meantime, if celebrity biographies are your bag, Britney Spears’ The Woman in Me, Paris Hilton’s Paris: The Memoir and Pamela Anderson’s Love, Pamela ought to scratch that itch in the meantime.
