How Much Do Contestants Get Paid?

Farmer Wants a Wife contestants are reportedly paid approximately $5 per hour during filming, which works out to be about $80 a day. On the So Dramatic! podcast, 2024 FWAW star Daisy Lamb revealed that the girls earn a pretty poor wage during their time on the show.

“Some days we were filming for 15 hours,… The day we filmed the Black Tie event, we started filming around 12 pm and finished around 3 am.”

What Do Contestants Do When They Aren’t Filming?

When they aren’t on camera, FWAW contestants can do *almost* whatever they want.

Daisy shared on the same So Dramatic! episode that contestants “did their own thing” when they weren’t required to film.

“On our farm, we’d take turns to help Farmer Todd feed the animals,” she recalled.

According to another ex-contestant, Isobel Moorfield, they were pretty flat-out during their time on the show.

She told Pedestrian TV, “There’s not a lot of downtime when we’re filming, so it was nice to be able to reset the house by cleaning, gardening and doing as much meal planning and cooking as we could.”

Who Decides On The Dates?

Chatting to Refinery29 Australia, former contestant Farmer Todd shared some juicy details about the dates and who ultimately has the final say.

“The producers asked me what there was to do around here and I’d just throw out some ideas of this and that, they’d just roll on from there.”

What Was The Sleeping Situation Like?

In regards to sleeping arrangemnets, Farmer Todd reflected on his time during filming, stating, “We had enough rooms in the house, the production team brought in a few extra beds just to help everyone have their own bed in the bedrooms.”

Does The Camera Crew Sleep In The House As Well?

Thank goodness the contestants get a little bit of privacy! Farmer Todd also told Refinery29, “The camera crew doesn’t [sleep in the house], they camp nearby. They camped in town.”

Can The Contestants Talk To One Another?

During filming of FWAW, the girls aren’t allowed to discuss what goes on to contestants on different farms.

In a different So Dramatic! podcast episode, one FWAW contestant from 2023 said, “We weren’t allowed to talk to the other girls,” adding that the only time it was permitted was on camera for the show.

Are The Guys *Actually* Farmers?

Whilst we, too, have wondered whether or not the strapping country men on our screens are too good to be true, but were setting the record straight that they are in fact, real life farmers looking for love.

“Oh yeah, as real as I am, I do contract mustering work off the farm too,” Farmer Todd told Refinery29. “We’re all on the farm, we’re all doing stuff, but we have other side jobs we go and do because we’re still young and we’re still, I guess, trying to grow,” he explained.

Is There An Age Limit For A Farmer Wants A Wife?

To our knowledge, there is no age too old to apply for the show, however, the youngest contestant to appear on the show was 20 years old.

Where Do The Contestants Go Once They Have Been Eliminated?

After speaking to contestants, Refinery29 revealed that farewells often take place very late at night, so after their goodbyes, the contestants are escorted by a member of production off the farm to a hotel for an overnight stay before heading home the next day.

Are The Contestant Allowed To Drink During Filming?

Farmer Andrew’s suiter from 2023, Lucie, revealed to So Dramatic! that while she “love[s] a wine”, on and off camera during the show, there are A LOT of limits on the amount of alcohol the participants could consume in one night.

She explained, “You’re allowed one drink an hour at functions, then, when you went to dinner on the farm, you had two drinks the whole night. That’s it.”

Who Decides What The Contestants Wear?

Apparently, the Farmer Wants a Wife stars “never knew” what they would wear, according to Corista, another ex-FWAW contestant who spoke to So Dramatic!. She shared that the girls had no clue what they were going to wear“until production rocked up”.

“We take our own clothes, and they would come back and pick an outfit,” she explained.

“I know a lot of people get a bit a backlash for what they’re wearing at certain events, but the truth of it is, we don’t know what we’re doing.”

She continued: “You’d wake up, you’d get ready, you’d have some brekkie. Production would pretty much roll in and tell you what we’re doing for the day and what we need wear. Then off we go.”

Did The Girls Watch Their Fellow Contestants Go On Dates?

An anonymous source from the 2022 season revealed to So Dramatic! that the girls looked on as their fellow contestants were swept off their feet by each farmer.

The source said, “The girls are all forced to watch the other dates from cars hidden in the background,” and went on to explain that it was a tactic for the producers to get “more of an emotional reaction” out of the girls. “It’s a bit crazy and sociopathic.”
