Since her book Fourth Wing was released in early 2023, it has dominated best-seller lists world-wide and quickly became one of the most popular texts of our time. Naturally, it didn’t take long for the esteemed author to that her beloved drama and dragon-filled series would be getting a TV adaptation.
“I’m so humbled and thrilled to announce that FOURTH WING has been optioned and is currently in development for a TV series by Amazon MGM Studios with Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society producing,” the author wrote on Instagram way back in October 2023.

What Is Fourth Wing About?
Of Rebecca Yarros’ planned five Fourth Wing novels, three books have been released so far: Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, and Onyx Storm, in that order.
The romantic fantasy book series begins at Basgiath War College, an elite school where students train in one of four military sectors: dragon rider, healer, infantry or scribe.
The series follows Violet Sorrengail, a scribe in training, facing her mother’s pressure to become a dragon rider instead. Her only hope for leaving the college by graduating, and amongst the chaos, Xaden Riorson (her mother’s sworn enemy) is determined to have her killed—or so we’re led to think.
Iron Flame, journeys with Violet through her second year as she faces troubling encounters with magical forces, hidden family lore and lies that completely alter dragon riding life as they know it.
In the third and most recent book, Onyx Storm, we follow Violet as she heads on a quest to learn Adarna’s (her dragon) origin and truth, or they will be faced with eternal doom.
Who's In the Cast?
Unfortunately, the cast of the Fourth Wing TV series is yet to be confirmed. However, we have gathered every clue dropped so far…
In an interview with Variety, Yarros dropped a couple of hits about Xaden Riorson’s potential casting, stating: “We’re just going to say he’s POC [Person of Colour], we’re just going to leave it at that.” She continued, “I was never going to give the readers my vision because I know that once you give the readers your vision, that’s what they’re gonna stick to. And I wanted to make sure we left it open to as much diversity as possible.”
Josh Heuston Comments On Fourth Wing
ELLE pointed out that Heartbreak High and Dune star Josh Heuston — who starred on the cover of Cosmopolitan Australia’s third issue — put a dragon emoji in his Instagram bio. The actor also began following the author AND the producer of the Fourth Wing TV series, Michael B. Jordan.
To add to these subtle nods towards the TV adaptation, Josh has also posted a clip of himself boxing to his Instagram Stories with the word ‘violence’ written over the video in tiny text. Now, you may be wondering why this is significant. Well, any true Fourth Wing fan would know that Violence is in fact Xaden’s nickname for Violet. *Mic drop.*
And if all of this wasn’t enough, the Aussie actor was spotted at Sydney airport reading Onyx Storm, the third book of the Empyrean series. Coincidence? We think not.
In a recent red carpet interview with marie claire, Josh divulged his thoughts on Fourth Wing, confirming he is a fan of the book series. “I think it’s a great world, the books are great, I’ve read them all now,” he shared at the premiere of THE LAST OF US in Sydney a few days ago.
On the lines of Fourth Wing TV adaptation talk, he also revealed that he wouldn’t be opposed to playing either Xaden or Bodhi. “I think they’re both good characters, they have their own signs and signets.”

Dylan Efron Shares His Thoughts On The TV Adaptation
Another potential cast member to join the cult-followed adaptation is none other than Dylan Efron — yes, Zac Efron’s brother!
The rising star is keen to give the project a crack, telling Page Six “Hell yeah! Sign me up,” when asked about joining the Fourth Wing cast. When asked further about the Empyrean series by Yarros, Dylan shared that he would be honoured to play any character, with one exception: “Pretty much anyone but Dain,” he told the publication.
Speculation Around Mackenzie Foy For Fourth Wing
Regarding Violet Sorrengail, ELLE was the first to report that Twilight star Mackenzie Foy also follows Rebecca on Instagram, and shared a post about Onyx Storm to her story. Fans reckon that Mackenzie is being teed up to play the young dragon rider due to her physical features being similar to the book character’s intended look.
However, as we mentioned, no cast members have been announced yet.
When Will the Fourth Wing TV Show Be Released?
As of the moment, the Fourth Wing TV series release date hasn’t been announced, nor have they commenced the filming stage. So, for anyone who hasn’t already read the gripping series yet, you’ve still got time to catch up on the novels before the show drops!
