Potterheads, unite!

The Harry Potter universe is expanding, with the beloved franchise being reimagined as a brand-new TV series by HBO. While Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson will *always* be Harry, Ron & Hermione in our hearts, the streamer has announced a fresh crop of young stars who will bring the characters to life for the new generation.

Now, we’re well aware that fans have countless questions that NEED answering before we officially head back to Hogwarts. When will the episodes come out? And what will it be about? Whether you’re a fully-fledged fan or just a curious muggle, we’re breaking down everything we know thus far about the new Harry Potter TV series.

Will There Be A New Harry Potter TV Series?

After announcing the series in April 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery has officially commenced pre-production on the Harry Potter continuation.

Concerning the show’s creative team, it was confirmed by HBO chief Casey Bloys in a press conference on November 12, 2024, that J.K. Rowling was “very, very involved in the process of selecting the writer and the director,” of the new series, despite her controversial comments online against transgender and non-binary individuals.

What Will The Harry Potter TV Series Be About?

Well, without being about to go into much detail, we can tell you that the new Harry Potter TV series will be a reimagining of the entire Harry Potter story as we know it!  Whilst some fans think this means that the series will adapt each OG book into a new TV season, nothing is set in stone.

HBO CEO and Chairman Casey Bloys has revealed to Deadline that the project would be on-air for “10 consecutive years.”

“This new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years,” she said, confirming that the revamped show will be “a faithful adaptation.”

Who Is Cast In The TV Series?

While several cast members — including Dumbledore and Hagrid — had previously been revealed, fans of the franchise were undeniably holding out for who would play Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The studio announced on May 28 that it cast three unknowns from tens of thousands of auditions, landing on:

  • Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter
  • Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger
  • Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley

  • Severus Snape will be played by Paapa Esseudu.
  • Groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid will be played by Nick Frost.

When Will The Harry Potter TV Series Premiere?

Unfortunately, we don’t have a release date for the upcoming Harry Potter series yet. However, having been confirmed to begin filming in mid-2025 in Leavesden, England — the same location as the films — the series should be hitting streaming services in 2026!
