Aside from being some of the buzziest visual media of the decade, what do Outer Banks, The Summer I Turned Pretty, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, Bodies Bodies Bodies and… Charli XCX’s ‘360’ music video have in common? Their stars are all teaming up for a new project.
Continuing the current trend of reviving cult films, Sony Pictures is working on a sequel to the 1997 horror-comedy, I Know What You Did Last Summer. And, in a win for fans of Netflix and teen dramas in particular, it has tapped some of Young Hollywood’s buzziest names for its cast.
But, before we tell you *exactly* who is involved—and when and where to watch the film—we best catch up on what it’s going to be about. Scroll on for everything you need to know.
What Is the I Know What You Did Last Summer Reboot About?
The original I Know What You Did Last Summer film was loosly based on the Lois Duncan novel of the same name, and follows four friends (played by Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe) who cover up a tragic car accident. A year later, they find themselves being stalked by a hook-wielding killer in their small seaside town.
It has actually already spawned a sequel—1998’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer—as well a stand-alone third instalment in 2006, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, which featured a different cast.
It’s not yet clear what the new reboot’s plot will be, or how it will be connected to the OG flick. However, we *do* know that several original cast members are reprising their roles…

I Know What You Did Last Summer Cast
Perhaps the only thing more exciting than the fact Sony is rebooting the beloved franchise, is that they’ve tapped some of Young Hollywood’s hottest names to be a part of it.
Do Revenge‘s Camila Mendes was originally attached to the lead role, Deadline has since reported that she’s been replaced by Bodies Bodies Bodies actor Chase Sui Wonders.
Madelyn Cline, of Outer Banks and Knives Out fame, is involved, too; as well as Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers and Jonah Haur-King.
Most recently, it was revealed by Deadline that The Summer I Turned Pretty’s leading lady, Lola Tung, was also on board. She is being joined by Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who has won hearts this year thanks to his starring role in Ryan Murphy’s retelling of the Lyle and Erik Menendez case.
The new cast is rounded out by One Tree Hill‘s Austin Nichols, Billy Campbell and musician/model/it-girl Gabbriette, who will make her big screen debut in the project.
Rumours Gabbriette was attached to the film started swirling after she was spotted hanging out with Madelyn, Chase and Sarah in Sydney last month, which is reportedly where the movie is being filmed.
Sound like an all-star cast? Well, it gets better: Several of the original film’s stars are reportedly reprising their roles, too.

Will the original cast reprise their roles?
Arguably the best part of any reboot is seeing a project’s original stars return. ’90s icons Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe all starred in the original film, but only a few are set to return for the reboot.
Notably, Sarah Michelle won’t be returning because… “I am dead,” she told People of the her character’s fate in the 1997 film. While he hasn’t spoken on it, the same presumably goes for Ryan, who’s character was killed in the slasher.
Sarah Michelle’s IRL husband (cute, right), Freddie will reprise his role. Jennifer may also be back and is reportedly currently in negotiations.
