Zendaya doesn’t “actually know much about what is happening” with Euphoria Season 3, but a certain Instagram post has just cleared up a lot of speculation!

The future of the hit HBO show, which permeated pop culture upon its debut in 2019, has been the subject of much speculation in recent years. Since the end of Season 2 in 2022, the show has been subject to a series of controversies and tragedies, including the exit of Barbie Ferreira, the accidental overdose of Angus Cloud, and widespread criticism of another of show creator, Sam Levinson’s projects; The Idol.

Regardless, it has been confirmed that Euphoria will still get a third season — however, it may look a little different from before, with some spritely new names accompanying most of the OG cast, and a time jump seemingly on the cards.

Euphoria Season 3 Will Have a Time Jump

Euphoria was long billed as a high school-set drama but for its third instalment, Rue and co. will be leaving East Highland High School behind.

Speaking on Entertainment Weekly‘s The Awards podcast, Zendaya confirmed that the series will feature a time jump between seasons two and three.

The star, who is also an executive producer on the show, said that she couldn’t give away *too* much about storylines, but that the plot would be “fascinating.”

“I don’t actually know much about what is happening,” the actress said. “I don’t quite know exactly what the season is going to look like, but I do know that the time jump is happening.”

“It’s important because there’s only so much high school drama you can deal with,” she quipped.

Zendaya added, “It will be fascinating to see and understand these characters outside of the context of high school and how all the stuff that we saw when they were kids and they were in high school affects the adulthood they have and who they become in a much bigger world. I’ll be interested to see what happens too.”

What Cast Will Return For Euphoria Season 3?

Via the show’s Instagram page, HBO and Euphoria have announced the fan favourites that will be returning to form the cast—along with a few newbies also joining the series for round three!

The Instagram post stated: “HBO today announced the returning main cast and new cast starring in season three of the Emmy-winning, critically acclaimed drama series Euphoria, as well as new and returning key crew members. Euphoria is created, written, directed and executive produced by Sam Levinson, stars Emmy® winner Zendaya, and is produced in partnership with A24. Season three is returning to shoot in Los Angeles.”

As the post was a carousel, it went on to list the “returning cast,” and the names noted were: Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Maude Apatow, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Martha Kelly, Chloe Cherry, and Colman Domingo.

On the “new cast” slide, ROSALÍA, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Toby Wallace, Marshawn Lynch, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Kadeem Hardison, Priscilla Delgado, James Landry Hébert and Anna Van Patten were all named.

Returning to play the series’ notorious ‘golden boy,’ Nate Jacobs, Jacob Elordi divulged to ET his feelings upon the commencement of filming season 3: “I just shot my first days of that this week. It was incredible. I mean, you also have to understand, we grew up from you know late teens into adults on that show. So, it’s just like, it was beautiful. It was really touching to go back and step into an environment like it was like stepping into a time capsule like nothing had changed.” The Aussie actor then went on to explain how coming back to the series felt “incredible” and was very “touching” for him.

Sadly, Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat Hernandez in the show’s first and second seasons will not be making a return, as she quit the series back in 2022.

“After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character, Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye,” she wrote in an Instagram story at the time. “I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did, and that [it] brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you, Katherine Hernandez.”

Angus Cloud, played the beloved Fez on the show, passed away in July, 2023 at just 25 years old.

It’s also now clear that Dominic Fike, who debuted on the show as Elliot in Season 2, will not be back for another run. When asked if he was returning for Euphoria Season 3 earlier this year, Dominic told VarietyStudio,  “[It] would be dope but I don’t really talk to them anymore.”

When Will Euphoria Season 3 Come Out?

In November 2023, HBO announced the third season of Euphoria was slated for a 2025 release. However, the show’s own controversies, as well as the SAG-AFTRA strikes, have meant filming has only recently begun, so we think a late 2025 release date is pushing it.

Nonetheless, we will keep you informed!
