If you thought you were never going to see John grab his trusty glock again, boy, do we have some good news for you! John Wick 5 has *finally* been confirmed after a heap of uncertainty around the future of the neo-noir action thriller series.
In light of the recent announcement of the forthcoming instalment, we’re breaking down everything we know about the film so far. Read on for the deets.
Is John Wick 5 *Actually* Happening?
Yes! Lionsgate announced the highly anticipated film is on the way at CinemaCon in April 2025 (along with the news of an animated prequel, and confirmation Donnie Yen is set to direct a Caine-focused spin-off film).
John Wick 5 was technically confirmed in May 2023, but the news was called into question after Keanu told Extra “the character’s dead” in March 2025 when questioned about the future of the project.
Additionally, the director of all four John Wick movies to date, Chad Stahelski, told Empire Magazine in July 2023, “I honestly don’t know… Lionsgate is keen on doing more John Wick stuff, understandably. It’s not a bad thing for a director to have a property that they want to make more of. I don’t have a take right now. But I could wake up tomorrow and have a cool idea that I’d pitch to Keanu [Reeves], or he would pitch to me, and it might hit that chord of: ‘Oh my God, we got to do this right now.””
He then later spoke to Inverse in October 2023, revealing to the publication, “I have notebooks and notebooks of shit behind me, John Wicks 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. We have ideas for days. We just don’t have the story locked.”
Now, it’s been confirmed by Lionsgate themselves that Chand is on board for John Wick 5 alongside Keanu. Yay!
Who Has Been Cast In John Wick 5 ?
First things first, it’s been confirmed that Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as the titular former-hitman.
Despite his unfortunate fate in John Wick: Chapter 4, he will be back, (somehow). Lionsgate producer, Adam Fogelson, explicitly stated at CinemaCon that “Keanu, Chad, Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world.”
Agreeing with Adam, Basil and Erica added, “It’s so important to get this story right and give John’s story the proper next step. It’s exciting to take the first step on that road.”
Unfortunately, an official cast list is still yet to be shared, but we will keep you posted!
What Is The Plot Of John Wick 5?
We’re not going to sugar coat it, John looked pretty damn dead at the end of Chapter 4 — but hey, if anyone can bounce back from death, its John Wick. Regarding the ambiguity around John’s future at the end of of the last film, Keanu told EW, “I guess I’m going to have to lean on never say never,… I mean, I wouldn’t do a John Wick film without Chad Stahelski. We’d have to see what that looked like. For me, it feels really right that John Wick finds peace.”
With all the anticipation around John’s future, Lionsgate has remained incredibly tight-lipped, so in terms of the plot, we have zero idea of whats to come.

Filming dates weren’t addressed during the CinemaCon announcement, so we can’t piece together a timeline just yet. But even without an official release date shared, the news that the film is confirmed and in production is good enough for us!
