The beloved Elle Woods is back in action, and we’re here for every second of it.

Fans, like us here at Cosmo, have been patiently awaiting new developments in the Legally Blonde franchise for years. How can we not—the first two movies were so good. And although rumours of Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling working on a new film circulated over and over again, we finally know that it is actually a brand-new Legally Blonde series that is in the works. Oh! And Reese is producing it.

First announcing the show at Amazon’s upfront presentations in May last year, Reese revealed that her very own production company, Hello Sunshine, would be producing the Legally Blonde prequel series, titled Elle.

Reese wasn’t the first to spill about the upcoming productions, though. In April 2024, Variety confirmed that a show “set in the Legally Blonde universe” was in the works. At the time, however, details were being kept under wraps and it has taken some time for us to find out exactly what the project might look like.

So if you’ve come for the tea, we’ve got it hot—and we’re spilling.

What Is Elle About?

The Legally Blonde TV series—which we now know is titled Elle—is actually a prequel of the original 2001 movie. Created by Laura Kittrell, the series will follow a young Elle Woods in her high school years (so before her sorority era and law school).

According to Deadline, the series will highlight how the experiences of young Elle shaped her into the character we all know and love, like, how she ended up as queen B of Delta Nu.

“I truly couldn’t be more excited about this series! Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do,” Reese said at the Amazon up-front presentation. “What could be better than that?! I’m extremely grateful to the incredible teams at Prime Video and Hello Sunshine—along with our amazing writer Laura Kittrell—for making this dream of mine come true. Legally Blonde is back!”

When you heard Elle Woods, your mind instantly imagined Reese Witherspoon, right? Us too, but don’t worry. For this new series, Elle is coming back a tiny bit different.

We got confirmation on who will be putting on the pink suit on February 14 via a video Reese posted on Instagram.

The clip saw Reese sharing the exciting news with her mini-me that she had landed the role of Elle. We are so happy to finally have confirmation that Lexi Minetree will be the face of the series.

Lexi is an American actress, best known for her roles in Law and Order: SVU, and Tubi’s Hot Take: Murdaugh Murders.

Unfortunately, we don’t yet know if Reese herself will assume a role in the series, but we do know she has officially passed on the (pink) briefcase to Lexi.

Where to Watch Elle

We can only assume the series will be available to stream on Prime Video, since Amazon Studios is making it.

When is the Release Date?

Considering we (and Lexi) only just found out who will be playing Elle Woods, filming hasn’t commenced, so the release date hasn’t been confirmed—sorry girls.

That does mean we’ll all have plenty of time to rewatch the OG Legally Blonde films before the series kicks off, though. Snaps for that!
