Taylor Swift may be the queen of a coy Easter Egg but when it comes to dropping hints about new music, the new generation of pop superstars are a little more overt in their approach.
Recently, fans everywhere have been sharing new theories about their favourite musicians—decoding their social media posts and picking apart lyrics—all in hopes of finding hidden teasers that may be hinting towards new work.
This weekend, Chappell Roan has given fans a sign something is in the works, and she hasn’t beaten around the bush. The ‘Hot to Go!’ singer has sent fans into a frenzy, with a (sort of) cryptic Instagram post.
On Friday, October 25th Chappell posted a series of polaroid snaps featuring herself repping her own merch, with the caption “This is a clue. Just let that sink in.”
Each of the polaroids had a single word written on them, spelling out “She Gets The Job Done”.
The star’s new photo dump has ignited speculation about what this could mean, and naturally, fans think could be nodding to a second album—especially since she has already confirmed she is working on new music.
The untitled project would be the follow up to her debut studio album, 2023’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
Is a New Chappell Roan Album In the Works?
Although we don’t know if there is a *direct* correlation between Chappell’s post and any new music, we can confidently say that a new album is in the works.
Her record producer Dan Nigro nodded to new work during the ASCAP Pop Awards in May 2024, stating, “I’m feeling good about it, but at the same time, we are literally right at the beginning of the recording process; it’s only been a few days.”
“When I have Chappell in the studio, it’s always good fun—she’s amazing,” he shared. “We’re doing a lot of sitting around and talking at this point, and there are moments where she becomes the Chappell you see on stage, but then there are moments where it comes down.” He added, “We’re writing ballads, some sad songs where it’s just the piano and her voice.”
In a discussion with the New York Times in October 2024, Dan said they had already completed five tracks for a new project. He shared that the music is pretty diverse, with the pair having worked on a “fun, up-tempo country song,” a “couple of ballads” and a “mid-tempo rock song.” As an unexpected twist, the new album will also feature a track with a fiddle. “I’ll say that much,” he told the publication. “It’s a new version of Chappell.”
What Has Chappell Roan Said About Album No. 2?
Chappell spoke about her new album at the ASCAP Pop Awards in May 2024 explaining that “there isn’t much on the agenda with this next album, I plan to do what I have always done: write songs that I love, create music I’m proud of, and share that with the world. Maybe I should have more of an answer to what my expectations are [with the album], but at this point, I just don’t know.”
As for her new merch-teasing Instagram pics, we will just have to hang tight until our Midwest Princess gives us some more deets.
