Listen up, Star Wars fans, this one’s for you! Disney and LucasFilm have made some *pretty* exciting announcements around the future of the epic space opera, including that there are currently several new instalments of the franchise in the works.

What Do We Know About The New Star Wars Movies?
On April 14, 2025, Disney and Lucasfilm creatives travelled to Japan to appear at the Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025 event, where they shared some insights about what’s to come for the intergalactic cinematic universe.
Veteran filmmakers like Jon Favreau, Shawn Levy, and Dave Filoni dropped some major details on their upcoming projects. Progress updates were made on The Mandalorian & Grogu, as well as Shawn Levy’s new Star Wars film starring Ryan Gosling, titled Star Wars: Starfighter.
Later came additional announcements that there are four more projects *officially* confirmed to be in the development stage.
How Many New Films Will There Be?
Alongside The Mandalorian & Grogu, and Star Wars: Starfighter, which already have their production wheels in motion, there will be another four movies coming. So, Disney has confirmed that six new Star Wars movies are set to hit our screens in the next few years. Well, arent we lucky!

How Many Star Wars Movies Already Exist?
With The Rise of Skywalker marking the end of the Star Wars saga, the entire series stretches across 12 movies, with a total run time of just over 14 hours! Yep, George Lucas wasn’t messing around (and that doesn’t include the various animated and live-action TV shows).
Then come the action-packed spin-offs, which we have listed below in order of best to watch based on the Star Wars universe timeline. See below:

When Will The New Star Wars Films Premiere?
The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to be released on May 22, 2026, and Ryan Gosling’s intro to the realm in Star Wars: Starfighter is locked in for a May 28, 2027 premiere.
Sadly, there is little to know yet about the production schedule of the remaining four films, so any timeframe and release date estimates would be a total shot in the dark. However, we’re watching this space closely for any new details and will keep you informed with all developments!
