As we eagerly anticipate the eighth and final instalment to the Outlander series (off the back of an extremely eventful second half to season 7), there’s no need to brace ourselves for the end of the franchise just yet. It would only be right that, in the year of prequels (Gladiator II, House of the Dragon Season 2, Dune: Prophecy—the list goes on), our fave Scotland-set show would get a spin-off of its own. Thankfully, the good people at STARZ know what the people want and have announced that an Outlander prequel series is on its way!
Titled Blood of My Blood, the spin-off will follow the swashbuckling stories of Jamie Fraser’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, and Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp.
Scroll on for everything we know about the Outlander prequel—including when and where you’ll be able to watch it in Australia.

Is There An Outlander Prequel?
Yes, there is, and we’re so excited about it!
In a press release from January 2024, STARZ announced that Outlander: Blood of My Blood had officially been greenlit for a stirring season consisting of 10 episodes.
Despite this thrilling news, it hasn’t been confirmed if the series will be a one-off instalment, or if fans can get excited about more seasons in the works.
What Is Blood of My Blood About?
Blood of My Blood will be set prior to Outlander and follow the love stories of its main characters’ (Jamie and Claire) parents.
STARZ gave eager fans some further context: “The series will centre on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie’s parents in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands and Claire’s parents in WWI England.”
In conversation with Town and Country, Outlander showrunner Matthew B. Roberts— the prequels writer and executive producer—shared “We’re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples. The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie.”
