What Is the Plot of Squid Game Season 3?

Look, we’re not going to sugarcoat it—Gi-hun is definitely on struggle street. You may already have a decent idea of what season 3 has in store if you saw the post-credits scene in the final episode of season 2.

Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk teased to Variety , “If you watch that clip, it’s going to give you a slight hint as to where season 3 might take you.” Hwang has also promised that Player 456 is about to become even more troubled. “So all of his failures lead to this heavy, heavy crisis of having to lose his very best friend, Jung-bae, at the hands of The Front Man,” Hwang also told the publication.

“What state is Gi-hun going to be in? And what will he choose to do? Will he continue on with the mission? Is he going to give up or persist? You’re going to meet our character Gi-hun at a very critical crossroads as we begin the third season.”

As Hwang warns us, “Gi-hun will not be the man he was in season two,” so we’re keen to find out if he will preserve and channel his inner hero, or give into the hardships coming his way.

Who Will Be In the Season 3 Cast?

Squid Game season 3 is set to continue on from where season 2 left off, so everyone who survived the final episode of season two should, presumably, make a return: mother and son pairing Jang Geum-ja (Kang Ae-shim) and Park Yong-sik (Yang Dong-geun); the pregnant Kim Jun-hee (Jo Yu-ri) and her ex, Lee Myung-gi (Im Si-wan); the shaman, Seon-nyeo (Chae Kook-hee); the struggling former marine, Kang Dae-ho (Kang Ha-neul); the trans special forces soldier, Cho Hyun-ju (Park Sung-hoon); the detective and fan favorite, Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon); the lethal game worker, Kang No-eul (Park Gyu-young); and the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), as well as Gi-hun.

Is Squid Game a True Story?

Squid Game became a worldwide sensation in September 2021 and continues to grow in intensity with fans hooked by the nail-biting games, sharp perspective on society and an intense plot that has us on the edge of our seats.

Thankfully, the games are not real and its happenings are fictionalised.

But, despite the concept of the games being made-up, the struggles of the Squid Game characters, especially Gi-hun, are based on very real issues. Hwang Dong-hyuk, the man credited with the idea for Squid Game, has made it known that Gi-hun’s journey was inspired by the Ssangyong Motor Strike in 2009 in South Korea. More than 2,600 people lost their jobs, and the workers went on a protest.
