We haven’t seen the last of The Last of Us!
Season 2 of HBO’s hit dystopian series hasn’t even dropped yet (it lands this week), but the streamer has already confirmed it has been renewed for a third season.
In a statement released this week, Francesca Orsi, executive vice president, HBO programming said: “It can’t be overemphasised how proud HBO is for the outstanding achievement we believe the second season of The Last of Us is.”
“We’re thrilled to carry the power of [creators/executive producers] Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann‘s storytelling into what we know will be an equally moving and extraordinary third season.”

Will There Be Another Season of The Last of Us?
Yes, HBO has confirmed The Last of Us Season 3 will happen. As for when it will land, we aren’t so sure.
Season 2 drops on April 16, 2025, just over two years after the premiere of Season 1. Using that as a rough timeline, we could possibly expect The Last of Us Season 3 in mid-2027 — but we’ll have to wait to find out for sure.

What Is The Last of Us About?
HBO’s The Last of Us is based on an action-adventure video game series of the same name.
Set in a post-apocalyptic United States that has been ravaged by a fungal virus, Season 1 of the show followed smuggler Joel (Pedro Pascal), who, along with his ally Tess (Anna Torv), had been tasked with transporting 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsay) across the country. On their way, the smugglers discover Ellie has been infected by the fungus but is totally asymptomatic.
Joel takes the teenager to a lab that’s supposedly working on a cure for the virus. Naturally, things don’t quite go to plan.
Season 2 is set five years after the events of the first season, and while we aren’t yet sure of the plot of seasons 3 and 4, we’re sure they’ll be just as good as the Emmy-winning first instalment.
