As another Anzac Day rolls around, we prepare to commemorate those who lost their lives on April 25 in Gallipoli and use the public holiday for reflection and mourning. In honour of our fallen ANZACS, most businesses shut for the duration of the annual public holiday; however, a couple of places will keep their doors open and services running.

Will Supermarkets (Coles, Woolies, IGA, Aldi) Be Open On Anzac Day?
All three of Australia’s major supermarkets — Coles, Woolworths and Aldi — will be honouring the ANZACS and closing their doors for the whole of Anzac Day this year. NSW Fair Trading explained, “As of 25 April 2025, all retail shops will be required to remain closed on Anzac Day to ensure the service of veterans is recognised and people are able to take part in services throughout the day,” and this appears to extend into the other states.
As for IGA, they tend to do their own thing, and many of their stores are independently run, so holiday trading hours are really up to their discretion — we recommend checking out what your local got planned for Anzac Day 2025.
Are Bottle Shops Open On Anzac Day?
As previously mentioned, Coles will be closed on Anzac Day, therefore, its trading banners — Liquorland, First Choice Liquor Market and Vintage Cellars — will also be shut for the day.
As for BWS stores, they will be open from 1 pm on Anzac Day and will close between 8 pm and 9 pm. Dan Murphy’s stores in NSW will also be open from 1 pm, but we recommend double-checking with your local store.
Is Maccas Open On Anzac Day?
Thankfully, McDonald’s is generally open on Anzac Day. Fast food outlets are typically exempt from the trading restrictions in place for general retail shops on Anzac Day. If you want to be sure before sitting out for a cheeky snack, check the opening hours of your specific local McDonald’s for their holiday trading hours.
Are Petrol Stations Open On Anzac Day?
Sure are; most petrol stations will trade on Anzac Day as most of them have unrestricted trading hours!
Are Banks open on Anzac Day?
Unfortunately, banks are closed on Anzac Day, as it is a national public holiday, meaning many payments won’t fully process, and foreign exchange transactions won’t be settled.
Online banking, however, will remain fully functional throughout the day for any simple money management that needs to be done.
