The first Monday in May may seem distant, but details of the 2025 Met Gala are already trickling in.

On October 9, 2024 the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute announced the theme of its next exhibition: ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.’

It will be the Institute’s first exhibition since 2003 that focuses solely on menswear. It is also the first since Andrew Bolton stepped into the role of Curator in Charge that will involve a guest curator, with Vogue announcing that Monica Miller, Professor and Chair of Africana Studies at Barnard College, Columbia University, is onboard.

Professor Miller wrote Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the 2009 book on which the theme is based.

Now, the Met has confirmed the evening’s dress code, too (because yes, the theme and dress code are different—not that attendees tend to adhere to either): Tailored For You.

Scroll on for everything you need to know about the 2025 Met Gala—including the co-chairs and a breakdown of the exhibition theme.

What Is the 2025 Met Gala Theme?

The 2025 Met Gala theme is yet to be announced. However, we know the theme of the exhibition it is tied to is ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.’

The theme the exhibition and event are always connected, but often slightly different. For example, the theme of the Costume Institute’s 2024 exhibition was ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,’ while the Met Gala theme was ‘Garden of Time’.

The dress code—which will certainly be linked to the exhibition’s focus—will likely be announced in the coming months.

'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style', Explained

The theme for the Met Costume Institute’s 2025 exhibition is ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,’ which takes inspiration from Monica Miller’s text, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.

The book traces the evolution of the Black dandy—a sartorially revolutionary figure—from Enlightenment-era Europe in the 18th century, to modern incarnations in London, Paris and New York.

In a statement, the Met said the exhibition will “present a cultural and historical examination of the Black dandy,” with CEO Max Hollein adding, “The Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition will explore—with remarkable scale and breadth—the importance of sartorial style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlan-tic diaspora.”

What Is the Met Gala Dress Code?

The dress code for the 2025 Met Gala is Tailored For You.

According to the MET, the dress code is intended to “purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation.”

This likely means suiting will take centre stage.

Who Are the Met Gala Co-Chairs?

The Metropolitan Museum of Art confirmed that Anna Wintour will be joined by an all-male panel of co-chairs for the 2025 Met Gala.

Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams—aka some of the world’s most fashionable men—will co-chair the event, with LeBron James joining as an honorary co-chair.

When Is the 2025 Met Gala?

As always, the Met Gala will be held on the first Monday in May. This will place it on the evening of May 5, 2025—or May 6 Australian time.

Who Is Attending the 2025 Met Gala?

Aside from the co-chairs, there is no word yet as to the next Gala’s guest list. While reports will undoubtedly flow in over the coming months regarding who is in and out—the reality is, we won’t know who is due to take the steps until the day of.

Rihanna fans (or anyone who adores seeing her always-on-point Met ‘fits—aka everyone) can rest assured that the beauty mogul will likely be in attendance, given her long-term partner, A$AP Rocky, is a co-chair.
