There’s something almost subversive about getting excited for a new laptop. A handbag? Sure. A fresh heel? Of course. But a piece of tech designed for productivity? That’s not supposed to make your heart flutter. And yet, here I am — typing (admittedly smugly) on the new MacBook Air, Apple’s most elegant argument yet that tech can be both high-functioning and highly fashionable.
Sleek, featherlight, and dressed in a new bright new sky blue finish, it feels less like a device and more like an accessory. The new MacBook Air is much more than just a pretty facade, though, with an M4 chip, 18 hour battery life and a bevy of new features packed into its ultra-light build.
Scroll on for a break down of the new features to note.
5 new additions to the macbook air
The MacBook Air is one of Apple’s best-loved and most versatile laptops so it wasn’t like the company needed to do too much in terms of updating. Regardless, the 2025 edition of the design boasts several new, nice-to-have aesthetic and performance-focused features of note, in addition to all the features users already know and love.
The M4 Chip
Notably, this is the first MacBook air with Apple’s M4 chip.
Apple says that when compared to the fastest Intel-based MacBook Air, the new, M4 model delivers up to 23 times faster performance.
In fact, the general speed of everything is blazingly fast. Spreadsheet calculation performance in Microsoft Excel, video editing in iMovie and photo editing in Adobe Photoshop are all faster than the previous model.
You certainly notice the speed, whether you’re editing something for TikTok or simply trying to run multiple browsers at once.
Apple Intelligence
The new MacBook Air is built for Apple Intelligence, Apple’s personal AI system. In addition to the fun features like image creation and custom emojis (Genmojis), Apple Intelligence helps support you across personal and professional pursuits, with Open AI’s ChatGPT integrated into various tools, as well as Siri.
iPhone Mirroring
A standout part of macOS Sequoia is the iPhone mirroring feature, which allows for cross-device connection like never before. You can wirelessly interact with your iPhone, its apps, and notifications directly from your new Mac, making responding to those TBR texts and tracking multiple calendars that little bit easier.
Top tip, though: If you’re using your laptop for work we suggest turning mirroring off on your screen time unless you’re prepped for some eye-brow raising numbers.
The Camera (!!!)
Given we spend so much time on calls, it’s just as important to have a good quality camera on your laptop as it is your phone. The new 12MP camera has improved video quality and a Centre Stage function, which automatically keeps you centred in the frame as you move around.
A Brand-New Colourway
The MacBook Air with M4 is the first laptop available in Apple’s stunning new sky blue colourway. The metallic, light blue hue creates a pretty gradient when light reflects off of its surface and it will most definitely make you the envy of the office.
The classic midnight, starlight, and silver shades are also available.
