Barry Keoghan has made a candid admission about his son, addressing internet trolls who have called him a “deadbeat dad” claimed he abandoned his child.
The actor—who shares the two-year-old with his ex, Alyson Sandro—opened up about why he rarely posts photos of his toddler on social media any more.
Speaking on the The Louis Theroux Podcast, Barry commented on the “narrative” that he is allegedly an, “absent father, shit deadbeat dad and more disgusting things that I wouldn’t even repeat.”
“People kind of have a judgement on me as a parent,” Barry said. “I’m like, well, until you’ve walked a day in my shoes growing up as a kid, then you can comment … there’s a lot online. If I didn’t have tough skin or the strength I have, I wouldn’t be sitting here.”
Barry added, “The more in the public I’ve become, the less I’ve posted about my child, because I don’t think it’s fair to put my child online, there’s sick people out there.”
He also told the host that, “the audacity of some people, man, it sickens me more than it makes me furious.”

The actor last shared a photo of Brando back in August, uploading a sweet selfie with his two-year-old, seen playing with a dinosaur toy, to Instagram.
Despite sporting light, strawberry blonde hair, the baby boy is practically his dad’s mini-me, having inherited his bright blue eyes.
“He’s more of a charmer than i am. Our wee Brando 
,” Barry captioned the post.
Michelle Pfieffer even acknowledged the likeness, commenting, “Has your eyes.”
Barry has also opened up about his son’s name in the past, confirming to GQ that he was named after iconic actor, Marlon Brando.
“Brando Keoghan. Imagine that, for a name!” he told the publication. “I set him up. Brando Keoghan, piano player. I obviously love Marlon Brando, but I just, yeah‚or a first name I thought it was quite cool. To have Brando in your name—feckin’ hell, man!”

Barry Keoghan welcomed his son with ex-girlfriend Alyson Sandro in August 2022. Barry and Alyson, a Scottish dental nurse and orthodontic therapist, first met at a London pub in February 2021 and started dating soon after.
The pair were together for around three years—and even attended the 2023 Oscars together—before quietly calling it quits in mid-2023, a year after Brando was born. The pair were incredibly private about their split, with the only comment coming from Barry in the aforementioned GQ article. The actor praised Alyson’s parenting, telling the magazine, “She’s done a great job and she’s an incredible mother.”
Not long after the relationship came to an end, Barry was linked to burgeoning pop star, Sabrina Carpenter in December 2023 and, by his own admission on The Louis Theroux Podcast, they still seem to be going strong.
