Winter is coming (again… apparently).
Five years after what is widely regarded as one of the worst series finales of all time—don’t even try to fight us on this one—we may *finally* be returning to Jon Snow’s Westeros.
Following the success of the prequel series, House of the Dragon, multiple outlets have reported that Warner Bros is currently developing a Game of Thrones movie.
The news comes a whole decade after George R.R. Martin, the author of the book series A Song of Ice and Fire (which the hit show is based on), told The Hollywood Reporter he was up for a Game of Thrones big-screen adaptation.
“It all depends on how long the main series runs. Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10?,” he said. “The books get bigger and bigger (in scope). It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know.”
This sounds great because—let’s be real—that season eight finale did *not* tie things up all that neatly.
So, a film is reportedly finally in the works. What do we know about it? Well, things seem almost as confusing as the Targaryen family tree.

A new report from The Hollywood Reporter says the film will be based around Martin’s “fantasy universe.” What part of it, exactly, is unclear. Could Warner Bros be set to run with the tale of a single house (like HBO has done with House of the Dragon)? Or will they do a full reboot with the OG cast? We don’t know. What we *do* know is that Warner Bros has been “quietly developing”the film and multiple sources told the outlet that the project is in very early stages.
Deadline provided an equally as ambiguous update, reporting that Warner Bros was “extending the Game of Thrones franchise.”
There is no word as to whether any of the series’ cast, including Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner or Kit Harrington, will return.
Given the details are muddy ATM, we’ll just pass the time until we know more by re-watching all eight seasons of Game of Thrones (again).
Watch here for updates.
