You didn’t think The Bachelor was gone for good after Network 10 announced its cancellation in 2024, did you? Of course it wasn’t!

After almost a year of waiting, The Bachelor is returning to Australian TV screens… but this time with a little upgrade. Instead of its run-of-the-mill take, the franchise is relaunching with Australia’s first-ever The Golden Bachelor—and it looks like our incoming silver fox has been appointed.

Fom what we know so far, filming is already underway, with paparazzi sneaking pics of the bach during filming.

Scroll on for everything we know so far about the first-ever season The Golden Bachelor Australia.

What is The Golden Bachelor About?

If this is your first time hearing of The Golden Bachelor, don’t beat yourself up, we’re here to serve you all the need-to-know info!

The Golden Bachelor is a spin-off of the Bachelor Franchise, but it’s a little different to what we’re use to. Instead of featuring a group of young people, it follows a bunch of singles in their golden years — so like, a little bit older than the usual crowd.

And it’s actually more entertaining than it sounds. First trialled in the US with 72-year-old GILF Gerry Turner, a retired widower, the show proved to be a success—it actually ended with Gerry getting married to 71-year-old contestant Theresa Nist. Their wedding was even broadcast in a live television special. Even though they got divorced three months later, the show still helped them find love—just not the one.

Who Is the Golden Bachelor In Australia for 2025?

Unofficially, reports say Australia’s first ever Golden Bachelor is “50-something” year-old Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden.

Daily Mail Australia has managed to secure paparazzi pics of what they claim to be the incoming bachelor, allegedly snapping him during early filming of the show.

But ofc, we’re still waiting for confirmation from the network.

Who is Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden?

Let’s uncover the deets on our reported newest reality TV star, shall we.

According to his LinkedIn Profile, the incoming Bachie is an Infrastructure Engineer for the Woolworths Group. He is also an Advisor / Investor for BlockScribe—so he actually has a real job and isn’t just an aspiring influencer!

The Sydney-based upcoming star is also a father of three and a “passionate sailor”.

In case you’re confused, it appears Barry is a single dad. Per the Mail, his wife sadly passed away in 2011 following a two year battle with an aggressive malignant brain tumour.

According to a source who claims to be close to The Golden Bachelor, it comes as no surprise that Barry is starring on the show… apparently his three kids never approved of his dating choices prior.

“Bear is always complaining that his boys are saying that he is bringing around the wrong kind of girls that are just too young and hot for him,” the source told Daily Mail Australia.

“We were always saying that he needs to be put on a show like MAFS, so seeing him up for the Bachelor role is no surprise.”

Oops, we don’t actually know this yet. But we do know that The Golden Bachelor Australia is coming sometime during 2025.

Who is Hosting The Golden Bachelor Australia?

Unfortunately, The Bachelor Australia host Osher Günsberg is taking a back seat on this one—after all, a new show falls for a new host. This love fest is bringing in Farmer Wants A Wife host Samantha Armytage.
