Shawn Mendes has just opened up about a very personal topic.
Since Shawn was “really young,” the musician—who shot to fame as a teen—has been acutely aware of public discourse surrounding his sexuality. However, as he has expressed in a new interview, has made the conscious choice not to publicly address the subject.
In a conversation with Us Weekly, Shawn explained, “I think it’s kind of silly because I think sexuality is a beautifully complex thing and it’s so hard to just put into boxes.”
He continued, “It always felt like such an intrusion on something very personal to me,” he continued. “Something I was figuring out in myself. Something I had yet to discover and still have yet to discover.”
During his Colorado concert, the 26-year-old got vulnerable with fans, opening up on-stage about where he currently stands with his sexuality.
“The real truth about my life and my sexuality is that, man, I’m just figuring it out like everyone,” he told the crowd. “I don’t really know sometimes and I know other times. It feels really scary because we live in a society that has a lot to say about that. I’m trying to be really brave and just allow myself to be a human and feel things. That’s all I wanna say about that for now.”
