One of the most delightful things about Zendaya — one of the world’s most famous women — is how low-key she is. Take her engagement, or even her entire relationship with fellow actor Tom Holland, for instance. They’re rarely out and about in public together and Holland’s virtually absent from Zendaya’s Instagram. When it came to the proposal, there was no live streaming, no renting out of stadiums or 70-piece orchestras to soundtrack the whole thing. It was as private as it gets — the only thing people are pretty sure of is the fact that they got engaged between Christmas and New Years last year at one of Zendaya’s houses. Apart from that, it’s all pretty hush-hush.
The ring, however, is far from quiet. In fairness, when you’re proposing to a woman who also happens to be the face of a storied jewellery house like Bvlgari, you kind of have to pull out the stops. Tom Holland most certainly understood the assignment.

After news of the engagement broke, it was confirmed the ring was designed by London-based jeweller Jessica McCormack, who, after working in jewellery at Sotheby’s, was inspired to launch a business focused on reviving traditional jewellery-making techniques. According to keen-eyed experts, Zendaya’s ring looks to be around five carats and has an estimated value of around $150,000 — so nothing too crazy. There’s a similar shape on the brand’s website (should you wish to save for future inspiration): a unique east-west cushion cut diamond set in white and yellow gold. The setting takes inspiration from the Georgian cut-down technique, which originated in the 18th century, and, for a five carat diamond, is surprisingly demure.
In an interview with Complex, Zendaya’s longtime friend and stylist Law Roach told the publication the couple are so private, photos of their wedding or her dress will likely never see the light of day. Which, womp. In the meantime however, close-ups of the engagement ring ought to suffice.
