Each year when the Met Gala roles around, there’s one non-fashion question on all of our minds: how do you get an invite and how much does a ticket cost (and can we go, pls and thx)? Short answer: it’s not easy and it’s certainly not cheap!

How Much Does a Met Gala Ticket Cost?

In recent years, Met Gala tickets have reportedly cost between US$50,000 and US$75,000!

And if you thought that was a crazy price tag — if a designer or brand wants to buy an entire table it’ll set the them back US$300,000.

The tickets seem to be getting more expensive by the year, too. They were the most expensive they’ve ever been in 2023, which caused some donors to ditch the event according to Page Six. Of course, organisers still had no problems at all filling the guest list with A-listers vying for an opportunity to walk the most iconic carpet in fashion.

Can Anyone Attend the Met Gala?

The Met Gala has a reputation for its ultra-exclusive guest list – all curated by Vogue US Editor in Chief, the one and only Anna Wintour.

The guest list is so exclusive that even if a designer spends big on a table, Anna still has the say on who they get to invite. Getting a ticket is quite possibly the biggest stamp of approval any star could ask for.

It’s not just A-list actors and musicians that attend the Met Gala, though. Very wealthy donors to the museum and other socialites also attend the event (and yep, Anna still has to approve them).

Do Celebrities Pay For the Met Gala?

I mean… it’s been reported that it has happened before, but generally, celebs do not pay for their Met Gala ticket. Typically, the brands that buy tables or tickets to the event invite celebrities as their guests, and shout their ticket.

In terms of the clothes, celebs also don’t pay for their extravagant outfits. The brands that invite the celebrity collaborate with them to create their look — whether they’re customised, pulled from the runway or archival. They get to wear these epic designer looks, walk fashion’s biggest and most important carpet and attend the most exclusive party of the year basically free of charge (crazy, we know)!
