Although it’s been nearly two years since Stranger Things left us absolutely heartbroken (RIP Eddie Munson), the countdown to the final chapter has officially begun. Netflix has confirmed that the supernatural series we’ve obsessed over for almost a decade will come to an end with its upcoming fifth and final season.
In a nostalgic new teaser, Netflix has given us all a sweeping look back at the story so far from Hawkins in Season 1 to the explosive events of Season 4 (that we are still recovering from), and set us up for our last trip to Hawkins, Indiana.
Here’s everything we know about Stranger Things Season 5 — which yes, will be the last season.
When Is Stranger Things Season 5 Coming Out?
Australians nation-wide should prepare to be glued to their screens for (practically all of) November and December. Stranger Things Season 5 season will be released in three volumes:
- Four episodes will be released on on November 27
- Three episodes will be releases on Boxing Day
- The finale episode will come out on New Year’s Day. So set your alarms for 12pm AEDT and naturally, cancel all holiday plans.
What is Season 5 About?
We know there will be a time jump, with Stranger Things Season 5 picking up a year after the events of Season 4. The last finale finished with Vecna opening a giant gate to the Upside Down, leading to mass panic and destruction in Hawkins.
“If season 4 was big, season 5 definitely feels bigger,” Jamie Campbell Bower, who plays Vecna, said in a behind-the-scenes video released during production.
On November 6, 2024 Netflix released the titles of the eight episodes that will make up Stranger Things Season 5. The name of episode 2 indicates that another character will go missing — probably plucked into the Upside Down.
Netflix has since released a juicy synopsis about what we can expect.
It reads: “The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming – and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party, standing together, one last time.”
Who Is In the Cast?
The full cast is expected to return for Season 5, including Millie Bobby-Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin and Sadie Sink. Returning cast also includes Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Winona Ryder, Maya Hawke, David Harbour and Joe Keery.
Several new characters are joining the cast for Stranger Things Season 5.
Nell Fisher, Linda Hamilton, Jake Connelly, and Alex Breaux are joining the roster, too. While details of their respective roles have been kept under wraps, Deadline reported on a theory that Nell would play an older version of Mike’s sister, Holly Wheeler.
